Two people meeting at a table

Oftentimes, people go unrecognized throughout their lives, never receiving praise for tasks well-done. This is a vicious cycle, as people who aren’t recognized for their contributions feel that they’ve accomplished less than those who are. This activity will help you to raise these people up and let them feel they’ve been seen and supported.

Instructions:

  1. Think about who, besides family and friends, has helped you this month and made you feel comfortable. Maybe there’s a colleague who helped you out with a difficult task, or an understanding manager. Make a list of all the people you think deserve recognition, but haven’t received it.
  2. Write a short letter detailing exactly how they helped you and why you appreciate them. Let them know that you recognize their hard work and support.
  3. Ask this person to meet with you. Start by showing them the letter and telling them what their help means to you. Afterwards, ask them how you can support them in return.
